The Roundtable of Mayors has three main objectives:

1. To discuss ways and agree on how local governments can have an important role for Habitat III in order to facilitate the linkages between cities and towns and national planning objectives in their role as drivers of national economic, environmental and social development.

2. The discuss how the New Urban Agenda based on Urban Planning and Design; Urban Legislation and Governance; and Urban Finances, can be strengthened to have equitable local development;

3. To share experiences on how urban leaders have been able to reduce urban inequalities and to discuss the way forward for an equitable development;

Under the theme of "Urban Equity and the New Urban Agenda: Strengthening the Role of Mayors towards Habitat III", the roundtable will also consider that cities are spaces of innovation, urban solutions and where the possibility of reducing urban inequality and poverty exists.
